Explore Southbank
The Southbank area of York, just south of the River Ouse, was once home to the now-closed Terry’s Chocolate Works. At the end of the road, you’ll find the local Knavesmire butchers (great Steak Pies), greengrocer, bakery, and pub—perfectly placed for dog walkers, runners, and families with the Knavesmire so close by. A bus stop at the street’s end takes you into York in minutes, or enjoy a twenty-minute walk along the river into the city centre.
On the Knavesmire itself, there’s a charming coffee spot where dogs are warmly welcomed -The Little Yorkshire Coffee Co. Head further along Tadcaster Road to discover Goddards, a hidden garden on the edge of York and former home of the Terry family (think Chocolate Orange). Explore its garden ‘rooms,’ fragrant borders, wildlife areas, vegetable garden, and glasshouse, then relax on the terrace or a garden bench with takeaway refreshments while soaking up the view.
